PRESIDENT'S NOTES
I hope that this newsletter finds
you in good health and ready to celebrate.
If you haven’t already heard, this is the 75th anniversary of
the establishment of PASR. Our 75th
anniversary planning committee has been very busy. Exciting events have been happening and will
continue to happen every month during our yearlong celebration. Read more about these events in this
newsletter.
The annual spring luncheon will be
held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the Red Eye in Flemington. Lou Bernard, Curator for the Clinton County
Historical Society, will be our speaker.
In conjunction with the 75th anniversary celebration, Lou
will be talking about things that were happening 75 years ago in the Clinton
County of 1937. The Clinton County
Chapter of PASR was created in 1966. Lou
will also be reminding us of what life was like in our local communities at
that time as well. Come and reminisce or
learn new things about this area in which we’ve all worked and lived.
Our luncheon is a time to catch up
with former colleagues. Some members may
not be attending the luncheons because they don’t want to come alone to this or
to other events that we hold. Please do yourself and a friend a favor and call
and invite them to come to the luncheon with you. A definite win/win situation.
It is dues time! You may send your dues in the pre-addressed
envelope included with your newsletter or pay Fran Kramer at the luncheon.
It’s also time to turn in your Volunteer Hours. There are three ways in which members can
turn in their hours:
- 1. Tally yours hours in the five categories and e-mail your totals to Phyllis Grenoble at Phyllis@chilitech.net
- 2. Call Phyllis Grenoble with your totals at 570-398-1313.
- 3. Fill out the Volunteer Hours survey form included with the newsletter you received in the mail. Return the survey in the pre-addressed envelope and give your completed survey to Phyllis Grenoble at the luncheon.
·
PASR 75 Years Old
In January of this
year, a group of PASR members met, under the leadership of Betty Schantz and
Germaine Weaver, to plan a year’s worth of anniversary activities to celebrate
PASR’s 75th birthday. You may
have heard about or participated in some of these great events that have
happened so far this year. This article will
highlight what has been done so far and what has been planned for the remaining
months of our anniversary year.
- · KICK OFF! January was the planning month.
- · “Shower of Love” In February, we asked county residents to write a letter of thanks to a former district employee, teacher, assistant, cook, bus driver, secretary, etc.).
- · In April Lou Bernard took us on a walk down memory lane with a tour of St. Mary’s Cemetery, highlighting educators and community members who have influenced education in Clinton County.
- · May 15, 2012 is the date of our chapter luncheon at the Red Eye. Lou Bernard, will talk about the history and highlights of Clinton County life in 1937 and 1966 when our local chapter of PASR was formed.
- · June – Best of Clinton County - The monetary value of Volunteer Hours donated by Clinton County PASR members will be represented by an over-sized check that Betty Schantz and Germaine Weaver will present to our Clinton County Commissioners at their monthly meeting. The picture and article to follow will make the community aware of the value of our members’ service as volunteers. The CC PASR will serve as Grand Marshall for the Best of Clinton County parade. Carmen Banfill will chair our entry that will showcase all that PASR does.
- · July – Support Children – Denice Kramer will head a drive to ask PASR & community members to donate appropriate school supplies (or money) for Clinton County families. Denice will deliver the collected items to Children Services and the Women’s Center before the start of school.

- · October – Fall Meeting – Change to DINNER encouraging current school personnel to attend as prospective members of PASR. Germaine Weaver and her committee are in charge of decorations and prizes for this SPECIAL dinner where we will renew our Clinton County PASR Charter. Rich Wykoff is working on a slide show about all our 75th Birthday Celebrations as well as a video about the “History of Education in Clinton County”.
- · November – Recap of Events – In photos and words, Leslie Smith will recap all the activities of our 75th Birthday Celebrations in The LH Express. PR chair, Barb Rendos, will add information about PASR and all the facets of the organization. Volunteer of the Year and Lauretta Woodson Award winners will be recognized in a separate article.

EDUCATION
SUPPORT/VOLUNTEER – DONNA YOST/PHYLLIS GRENOBLE
The
EDSUP Goals for 2011-12 were established during the PASR Educational Support
Committee meeting held in Mechanicsburg, May 3, 2011.
The
recommended goals to continue the presentation of Lauretta Woodson Awards and
the awarding of an Educational Support Grant (available to any school employee)
were retained.
New
Business focused on helping chapters establish/expand the local scholarship
programs. As 2012 is PASR's 75th anniversary, it was suggested that each
chapter be encouraged to provide
a
special scholarship in the amount of $500 to commemorate the event.
Two
names have been selected to receive the 2012 Lauretta Woodson Awards, The names
of the recipients have not been released, both will be notified within the next
month. The awards will be
presented
during the first Keystone Central School Board meeting in August 2012. The L.W.
Award gives positive public recognition to individuals employed in the district
and promotes PASR's support of public education.
This
year the Educational Support Grant of $300 was awarded to Cathy Lacy,
Enrichment Specialist of Robb Elementary School. All fourth and fifth graders,
approximately 120, along with 20 adults will participate in a week long block
of Enrichment Clusters. Students and facilitators will complete an evaluation
at the conclusion of the project. All projects will be displayed during the “Roadrunner
Extravaganza ". Hundreds of parents, grandparents, and other family and
community members will attend the evening event.
Three $500 scholarships will be awarded to Keystone Central
students, one of the scholarships will be the 75th Anniversary Scholarship.
Applications were delivered to Bucktail and Central Mountain H.S. Fran Goodman
and David Liddick are heading up the scholarship selection committee. Media
coverage will be covered by the local newspapers.

volunteer Education Support projects to be completed this year will be held to
support the youth of the community. We are looking to complete a
backpack/school supplies event and the very successful Big Brothers Big Sisters
picnic planned for the upcoming summer months.

as part of the family activities farewell ceremonies held prior to the local
